Broom & Slip-Resistant Decks
Textured broom and light-sand finishes that keep grip when the deck is wet. The everyday Houston pool deck, poured with a fall away from the coping.
Commercial & Residential Concrete
Slip-resistant concrete pool decks, coping and surrounds for Greater Houston. Broom, exposed-aggregate and cool-deck finishes, formed and poured by our own crews and graded to drain away from the pool and the house.

Service Overview
A concrete pool deck in Houston takes a beating. It bakes in full Gulf sun, gets splashed and walked on wet all summer, and sits on expansive clay that swells and shrinks with every wet-and-dry cycle. Poured over a thin or skipped base, the slab heaves and cracks, turns slick, and pushes rain back toward the pool and your foundation. A deck built right stops that. Jimenes Construction is a self-performing concrete contractor. We have poured flatwork across Greater Houston for 23 years. Our own crew forms, sets steel and finishes every deck, engineered for our clay and Gulf heat.
A pool deck done right does three jobs at once. It stays cool enough for bare feet, and it grips when it is wet. It also carries water away from the pool and the house. There are no brokered crews and no hand-off to a finish sub. We pour new decks around gunite and fiberglass pools and resurface old ones that have gone slick, cracked or hot.
Finish is a choice you make up front. We pour slip-resistant broom, seeded decorative concrete, exposed aggregate and heat-reflective cool-deck coatings, all built for our clay and Gulf humidity. A pool deck is the same family of flatwork as a concrete patio or a concrete driveway. We can tie all three together in one pour and one finish.
Coverage
Each finish is its own trade. We form, pour and finish all six in house.
Textured broom and light-sand finishes that keep grip when the deck is wet. The everyday Houston pool deck, poured with a fall away from the coping.
Acrylic-cement cool-deck and cool-coat toppings that stay cooler than gray concrete under the Gulf sun, so the surface is easy on bare feet in July.
Washed and seeded stone finishes that hide staining, drain fast and hold traction. A durable pick for full sun and heavy family use.
Stamped, scored and integrally colored surrounds that read like stone or plank, poured to match the patio and the house.
Cast-in-place cantilever coping and bullnose edges that finish the pool line and shed water back toward the deck drains.
Overlays, micro-toppings and joint repair for decks that have gone slick, hot or cracked, without tearing out the whole slab.
Our Process
Five steps, the same on a backyard deck and on a community pool surround. Call (832) 576-3278 to start at step one.
We check the pool shell, the fence line, the low spots and the truck access. Then we set where the deck drains and where the water has to go.
A line-item quote with the finish picked up front: broom, exposed aggregate, cool-deck or stamped, plus coping, color and square footage.
Forms set to a fall away from the pool and the house, with the base compacted. Deck drains go in, then rebar or fiber mesh over a clean subgrade.
One pour, screeded to the drain slope, then broomed, seeded, cool-coated or stamped. Coping set and control joints cut to place the cracks.
Slab cured, a breathable sealer applied, the barrier and gate checked against code, then a walkthrough before you swim.

Engineering & Compliance
A pool deck sits on Houston clay and lives in the wet. We build for both.
Why Jimenes
The same crew forms, pours and finishes your deck. A slip-resistant broom or a cool-deck coat is a finishing skill, and it does not get brokered to a day sub.
A gray slab in full Houston sun cooks. We pour cool-deck and textured finishes that stay cooler and keep grip when the deck is soaked.
Most pool deck trouble is drainage. We grade the fall away from the pool and the house and set deck drains, so water does not pond or run back into the pool.
Square footage, finish, coping, color and drainage each get their own line. You see what the cool-deck upgrade costs, and change orders are signed before the work.
Credentials
Texas does not license concrete contractors, so we send the insurance certificate with every proposal. Here is what a pool deck contractor in Houston can actually show you.
Where We Work
Headquartered in Houston and pouring pool decks across the Greater Houston area, from inside the 610 Loop out to the master-planned communities along the Grand Parkway. If you searched for a pool deck contractor near me and landed here, this is the radius we cover. We can be on site the same week.
Good Questions
Still not sure? Call and talk to the person who will run your deck.
Talk to a BuilderThere is no flat rate. The pool deck cost moves with square footage, finish and drainage more than anything else. A plain broom deck is the low end. Exposed aggregate, stamped and cool-deck finishes cost more because they take more labor and material. We do not publish a price per square foot, because a number given before we see the yard is a guess. Ask for the free written estimate, where the finish, coping, color and any deck drains each get their own line. A deck often pours together with a patio or driveway, which can lower the cost per foot.
Gray broom concrete gets hot in full Gulf sun. The cooler options hold up better here:
A proper slip-resistant finish is the whole point of a broom or light-sand texture. We build the texture into the finish so the deck stays grippy under water. For extra traction we can add a broadcast texture to a decorative concrete surround so it looks finished and still holds your footing wet.
Often, yes. If the slab is sound and draining, we can bond an overlay, micro-topping or cool-deck coat over it and skip the demo. That is the fastest way to fix a deck that has gone slick or hot. If the concrete is heaved, badly cracked or ponding water, a tear-out and repour is the honest call, and our concrete repair and restoration page covers the in-between fixes.
The pool barrier is the code that matters most. Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 757 requires a pool yard enclosure at least 48 inches tall with self-closing, self-latching gates. The deck work itself may need a City of Houston or county permit depending on scope. We check the barrier and gate against code before the pool reopens, and we pull any permit the job requires.
Slope. We form the deck to fall away from both the pool and the house, usually about a quarter inch per foot. On flat yards where the water has nowhere to go, we set deck drains. Houston averages nearly 52 inches of rain a year, so a deck that ponds or drains the wrong way is a real problem. Getting the fall right is built into every pool deck we pour.
